ALTHOUGH losing the first match of their tour, A.I.K. played some purposeful football against Chelsea, and in a desperate late rally in heavy rain and semi-darkness they all but saved the game.
The visiting defenders specially impressed, and that no more than two goals were conceded during persistent Chelsea attacks was high tribute to the efforts of a barrier in which Niulsson (right-back) and Leander (centre-half) excelled - not that their colleagues were far behind. Klasson, the left-half, revealed great speed which won him two thrilling cross-field chases with the elusive Bowie, who caused most concern to the Swedish defence lines.
A.I.K. looked dangerous in occasional sorties, and two shots passed just wide of the target before another breakaway brought them a goal just on half-time. Andersson, the captain, put across a splendid pass to GÖSTA NILSSON, and the left-winger calmly dribbled around Medhurst and cracked the ball home.
Early in the second half Chelsea drew level, BOWIE crashing a 20-yard drive past the surprised Sjöberg, and soon afterwards BENTLEY scored the winning goal - a capital cross-shot with the left foot.
As is Continental practice in friendly games, substitutes were allowed during the second half, when Chelsea included Saunders for Harris, and A.I.K. replaced Larsson by Ericsson.
